Digication Getting Started and Directions Documents
A Model for the New Media Student
Description
Tunxis Community College is committed to digital portfolios as a means for students to demonstrate learning in courses and programs. Students at the College will use Digication to develop portfolios throughout their careers at Tunxis. The digital portfolio provided by the College will assist students in demonstrating learning and accomplishment for degrees and programs, College to University transfer, and for personal, life-long learning.
Students should create a learning portfolio in the Digication system by following this link. Students can create as many portfolios as they wish but a primary portfolio, a student learning portfolio, will be used to accumulate works that demonstrate evidence of learning in the context of Tunxis’ Ability-based Model. Students should discuss or follow instructions from their professors to determine the extent that ePortfolio will be used in course work.
The student portfolio will be a portfolio in progress and will be organized into final form as a student nears completion of a degree or program. As students accumulate course content appropriate for portfolios from their courses and programs, the portfolio will change, displaying different content as their abilities develop. For example, a third semester student will have different materials to display in an ePortfolio than a student working through their first semester.
The Student Portfolio at Tunxis Community College
Students who complete any New Media Communication course successfully may chose to include assignments and products of Satisfactory or Distinguished achievement as demonstrations of General Education and Program oriented abilities, where relevant and appropriate. These examples of ability may form a portion of a students’ degree completion requirement. Faculty will direct students on the degree to which portfolios and Digication’s assessment features will be used in individual courses.
In New Media Perspectives, ePortfolio will be a subject of study as it is a new media system. Some assignments in the course will need to be accessed and submitted for review by faculty using Digication’s assessment/assignment feature.
The New Media Portfolio
The New Media Portfolio will include all of your work completed for the course, including:
1. Representing Space (10 %) (Self-Assessment goes in ePortfolio)
2. Trend Watch Reports (40 %) and the Past, Present, and Future (10 %) projects. Each end-of-month report will be uploaded into the ePortfolio system in a “Page” under your New Media Communication “Section.”
3. Observing Systems Assessment (10 %) (ePortfolio)
4. Linking Ideas Assessment (10 %) (Self-Assessment goes into ePortfolio with link to Emberlight)
5. Interactive Fiction Game Assessment (10 %) (Linked to Parchment document in ePortfolio with a description of the game)
6. ePortfolio (10 %)
