Students in Tunxis Community College’s New Media courses will be required to keep an electronic journal. We also refer to these journals as commonplace books. See the semester specific syllabus for more detailed explanation of the journal requirements, a significant part of your performance in any given semester.

We use electronic facilities here not just to get you thinking about new media tools and practices but also because using and exploring the tools is an important aspect of new media.

Here’s a list of free resources for students to get started:

WordPress
Follow this link to WordPress to begin writing your journal in a free Wordpress weblog. Simply follow the directions through the process and you’ll be up and running in minutes. Wordpress.com now offers 3 gigabytes of upload space.

Livejournal
Follow this link to use Livejournal. Follow the directions through Livejournal’s set up process.

Vox
Vox is another strong option for developing your new media journal. Take the tour and you have lots of options.

Blogger
Here’s a link to Blogger, one of the oldest free services on the net, now owned by Google.

Edublogs
Edublogs, using Wordpress as its backend, is a service dedicated to weblogs and journals for students and teachers. A very nice service.
